call for artists

FirstWorks is committed to showcasing the creative talents of Rhode Island's own artists, and to presenting "firsts in the arts" to Rhode Island audiences from a worldwide array of artistic innovators.

We offer financial, creative, and production support to artists, and welcome proposals for performances that:

  • - premiere new work
  • - contribute to re-defining your artistic genre
  • - cross genres, forge new collaborations or bend the rules
  • - showcase work from our richly diverse Rhode Island communities
  • - engage our local community and deepen participation

FirstWorks offers many opportunities for artists to showcase their work:

Headline Performances: Booked six to eighteen months in advance.

Co-presented Performances: Collaborations to produce, present and promote new work.

JumpStarts: Performances in venue lobbies and in the streets of Providence turn each FirstWorks performance into a festival. These opportunities are best suited to groups who reside in or near Rhode Island.
